In our project we want to use rsh for remotely logging on to a machine and execute commands. But we are getting the message "Permission denied" ,when we give
"rsh [host] [command]" in the terminal. So if anyone knows how to use rsh and remotely execute commands on other machine, please give me complete details. If any seperate configuration is needed, please furnish details about that also.
The remote host may be denying you due to the hosts.deny and hosts.allow entries or your remote server isn't listed in /etc/hosts.equiv. Read through the man 5 hosts_access manpage. Also check if the remote host has the rshd daemon running. Also check if rshd access is controlled by the xinetd daemon. Also check the PAM configurations and the logs on the remote server. Also check if the the firewall is allowing you to connect.
Consider using ssh instead of rsh. Rsh is very insecure. I feel like I have committed a mortal sin telling you anything about it.
