If it's not named "linux", but "linux-2.6.9..." it's okay. Else you have to install the kernel source with help of the package manager of your choice (sorry, don't know what choices there are exactly on CentOS, I think "yum" is the one). The package should IMHO be named "kernel-source", so that would mean issuing "yum install kernel-source", but please check that in your CentOS manual.
Well you only need to find the config to do the check. Probably there is a copy in /boot; have a look for something along the lines of conf*
Just grep that - personally I always use "-i"
Else check if /proc/config.gz exists - if yes, use zgrep on that.
Of course if you want to change anything you'll need the full source tree.
