3com 3C905C-TX Network card and 10baseT-HD

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with 3com 3C905C-TX Network card, it is presumably driver for it. I cannot ping another embedded Linux from my SuSE Linux Professional 8.2 box. The machines are connected over a crossover cable, and when the embedded Linux is exchanged with a Windows 2000 based machine, setup with the same IP, subnet mask etc this works flawlessly (pinging). The only difference is that the Windows machine uses a 100 Mbit/s capable card. The best the ethernet controller on the embedded Linux machine can muster is 10baseT-FD, and it is not the source of problem as it works in conjunction with a Windows 2000 based machine (I mean network transfers are ok). When I run mii-tool it says:

eth1: no autonegotiation, 10baseT-HD, link ok.

I have forced eth1 into 10baseT-FD mode, I thought it would be better, but it isn`t.
I blame the card driver, it seems that it has problems with the slower bitrates.
Does anyone has an experience/advice on this matter?

Thanks in advance

I have the same card. mii-tool reports "eth0: 10 Mbit, half duplex, no link", which is rubbish, because I'm using the card right now, and my network transfer speeds show me that it is in fact, running at 100Mbit. So maybe there is a problem with mii-tool reporting incorrectly.

I have stopped worrying about it.
