Question *nix and Active Directory...

Hey everyone,

Is there *nix equivilent of Active Directory just for the open source world?

Does anyone know of a useful tutorial explaining how to use Red Hat (as a file server) in an Active Directory enviroment and the authentication actually work?

Sorry if this is a total noob question but I have been Googling 30 mins now and I have seen lots of explination on Kerberos and LDAP across platforms at the application level but nothing too useful to the end user who just wants to get a file from the server in an AD enviroment.

Mike
