The nexus 4 and 7 are great, but what stops me from buying any of those is the lack of a microsd slot. I am a video person and love to take videos with me. In fact, I have an microsd card with 27GB of videos and mp3s which I use on my samsung galaxy reverb.

Do you think the nexus models do this on purpose of not including a microsd slot so we are force to use cloud services?

Add a cheap OTG cable and you can connect everything ...

Oddly enough, we have a Nexus 10, and it doesn't seem to support mass storage devices over USB by default.

This is with a USB stick and an OTG cable. I haven't fiddled with it enough to figure out how to get this working yet. It's my mother's tablet and I don't want to mess it up.

The strange thing is, it works on my daughter's tablet which is a cheap Amicroe TT2 which we bought on clearance from a large department store. This one runs ICS. As soon as you plug anything into the micro-USB port, you get a notification at the top of the screen. With a USB stick it asks if you want to mount it.

I don't know why this doesn't work on the Nexus 10. Is there a setting which needs to be changed? I've had a dig through the settings, but can't find anything which seems to be related.

I don't know. I'd suspect some corporate study versus cost drove the decision.

The cloud services are practically unusable if you are not in a good internet connection zone.They should definitely include a micro sd extension for external storage. I mean is it that expensive to attach one..what's the problem with these guys?

Google might have disabled that.

I use Airdroid and/or android SDK's adb tool to transfer files between android and computer and vice versa.

I thought of switching to a nexus from my existing Samsung galaxy S plus but now i think i have to give it a second thought as well.I might look for other options for better practicality.

I am still struggling whether I should get the nexus 4. I am tired of buying android phones with outdated android releases and the vendors seem to take their sweet time releasing new android versions if any at all.

With the Nexus series you get new android releases and more and the lack of a microsd card.

Me too, [actually, I prefer 3cx...] but sometimes people give me stuff on USB sticks. It'd be nice to be able to mount them via the USB host, which Android is clearly capable of doing but Google seem to have disabled on the Nexus.

Android is based on a stock linux kernel. They should make things seamless for linux users and their devices so we don't have to resort to work-a-rounds.

But, that's Google for you. They are full of surprises

I think switching to windows phones might be a great option..I have heard that Lumia has been making steady sales so i guess it might be a good option.
