if this works it'd be easiest: just change the permission on the /dev/input file. insure the app runs as a user sans that permission.

did anyone mention pam security? I forget which file in /etc/ has it, but one uses pam to control access to devices. It was originally the "motive" of pam. People had issues setting file permissions on devices so normal users could use (bad devices without lid support, like video cards and mice) without having root permission. luckily few MFG make disks that lack uid support!
