vlc runs in cli but not in graphical mode

Hi all

A friend has asked if I can find for him a solution as to why vlc will not open a window in grahical mode but runs via cli.

The system is LMDE 5, is fairly up to date, is running vmlinuz-4.19.0-11-amd64 9only because for some reason will not properly install latest kernel in /boot.

Thank you in advance from my friend and I.

Has your friend checked the log files for any entries that might help when launching VLC from the men

When your friend opens vlc from the command line, does it then run in the standard vlc GUI interface?

If that's the case, the first thing I'd check in the menu entry to make sure it's correct.

Also, when it's launched from the CLI, does it throw any messages to the terminal.

Hi there,

I am informed that when run in cli there is no menu or controls; will have friend check terminal messages and get back to you; all the best from slackbat and friend.
