Mint Linux 18.2 wifi wireless driver for older HP Pavilion AMD Athlon 64 bit laptop ?

I am playing around with an older HP Pavilion laptop with AMD 64 Athlon processor and I installed Mint Linux on it, but I can't get wifi driver to be recognized. I must use Ethernet cable to work on-line with it, can anyone offer any advice?

It did have windows xp running on it and I removed it.

You need help with wireless and the only information you did not provide is the information regarding your wireless hardware. How discouraging for potential helpers.

I tried to do a search for drivers within the operating system itself and thought for sure Mint Linux would auto detect it. I looked up specs online and still do not know. I forgot what the command it is to do a mod probe . Thanks for your help and advice.

Hello RockDoctor - it appears I have this wifi card on this device - a Broadcom BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller, where and how can I install this driver using Mint Linux 18.2, everything else works great, the sound, DVD player, volume, etc, but when I installed with iso dvd it would not install wifi driver automatically.

I got the laptop from a friend who gave it to me for free, she had WindowsXP on it and her browers could not be updated without upgraded her operating system. She could only do minimal browsing and could retrieve email so wifi was working.

She bought a mac laptop and did not want this laptop.

HP Pavilion AMD 64 Athlon, ATi Graphics, originally loaded with Windows XP.

Thanks for any advice you may offer.

Here is a real specific definition of this wifi card.

This thread in the Linux Mint forums seems to address the issue. My Linux Mint (17.3)-running Dell netbook uses the Broadcom 4312 chip, and I don't recall having to do any real messing around to enable wireless. However, I may have enabled the Ubuntu repos, as it does appear that my bcmwl-kernel-source and linux-firmware files came from the Ubuntu repo.
