Mint 19.3 Cinnamon does not show individual minimized windows

With earlier versions of Mint I would see one icon in the panel for each file or doc I had open.
With 19.3 Cinnamon they are nested--for example, whether I have one document open or several, the Libre Office icon is highlighted; if I have a file open, a file icon opens in the panel, but only once, and I will see the individual items only when I scroll over the icon.

I dislike this, partly because I am a creature of habit, but also because I find it less efficient. Is there a way of returning to the previous behaviour?

I am running Mint 19.3 Cinnamon 64 bit on a Lenovo ThinkCentre.
Thanks!

Brant,

I use MATE but this should also work for Cinnamon:

Right click on the panel, choose Add to Panel and then, scroll down and select Window List.

Perhaps I shouldn't have turned on the computer this morning ...

I had looked at my settings and at the panel before without seeing anything applicable, but this morning took a second look, and though I did not see "Add to Panel" I did see, after clicking on Applets, "Window List" and I added that.

When I opened some files to experiment, their icons appeared in the panel; however the moment there were more than a couple their names vanished, and I found that if I minimized the files then they did not expand again when I clicked on the icons. I decided that I had gained nothing and reversed the change I had made whereupon the screen locked up ...

After shutting down and rebooting I found the menu icon missing, the panel icons crowded into the right-hand corner, and when I right-clicked the panel to attempt edits there was no response.
I decided to return the computer to a snapshot from a few days ago, expecting that the panel would return to it's earlier appearance. It did not, but it now allowed me to go into edit mode and I was able to replace the menu button.

So … not much further ahead!
But I now have a new question: I was able to move the menu icon back to the left-hand corner of the panel, but when I dragged other icons over, they bounced back o the right. Is there a trick?
