Mint 16 Cinnamon and Nemo

Nemo doesn't work for me. It takes ages to load, there are no descriptions on compact view, the sizes of icons and text are wildly random, and I can't change the width of columns. I have tried Edit/Preferences and View/Reset View to Defaults. I have also tried reinstalling it in case there are old settings hanging around:

Code:
sudo apt-get remove --purge nemo
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nemo
sudo apt-get update
I have found something quite simple called Files 3.8.2 which is much better, and Dolphin which gets top rating on this site is even better than that. How can I make one of these the default file manager when I click on the files icon etc?

If you right-click on a folder, choose "properties" and look for something like "open with" etc?

Thanks! I should have remembered that, I will make a note of it. So far I have found that it works everywhere except the standard Mint menu - but that is useless anyway as it generally takes several seconds to open, so it doesn't matter as I use something else.

If you want to associate file extensions to certain applications. Search for something with "MIME" keyword in MINT.
There may be a separate too to setup that.
