Minimise function not working as it should on Firefox, T/bird, documents etc

I am using Linux Mint 19.2 MATE and this minimise problem affects Firefox, T/bird, documents etc.

The normal minimise operation puts Firefox in a rectangular frame in the bottom toolbar.
Clicking on this frame then brings back the full screen, likewise with Thunderbird, documents etc.

Currently when I press the (-) Minimise button, the window for Firefox etc closes the program completely and I have to restart the program from scratch.

Any suggestions?

EDIT

I decided to right click in the bottom toolbar/panel and then clicked on Reset panel.
All is back to normal.

Ooops, sorry, I didn't scroll far enough to the top. And since the original title doesn't get changed I missed that. Thanks all the more .
