How are you installing applications? I ask this because it sounds like you are installing application dependencies without actually installing the application. For example, "brasero-common" is not an application, but a dependency of "brasero".
What are you trying to install, k3b? If so, use Linux Mint's package manager, or software center, whatever it's called and install k3b, if it is available for the version of Mint you are running. If you want to install "brasero" instead, install "brasero, the application itself.
When you use a Linux distro's package manager to install an application, it will automatically install all required dependencies.
