Mint is a derivative of Ubuntu. With respect getting an NVidia card working, I doubt if there will be big differences-----but: You would need to tell us exactly what problem you are having---and with what card.

My computer use is no foremost gaming, but office, and internet for business and entertainment, that is my I like Mint 5. It came with media... in operation, Mint 7 did not, but I learned how to complete it for video...
I use Dell Dimension 4600, Pentium 4.
I will be giving a CD to my dad for install on his dual core.
you will probably find that the Mint O/S will work better, simply because they incorporate the drivers into Mint, whereas with Ubuntu you will need to download them, 1st.
Dell can use propriety drivers, that may not work under a generic O/S like Mint / Ubuntu.
