Artifacting in Mint 10

I am getting artifacting and partial windows contents not being cleared
from the screen. Also, my Menu now doesn't open on the first click but it
does sometimes display a ghost outline of what would be the Menu area
if it did open. On the second or third click the Menu will open and
sometimes leave the outline of the Menu area on the screen after an app
has been selected.

Here's a link to Photobucket for the screenshot of the artifacting
showing part of the Menu artifact on top of Pan newsreader:

Thanks for the help

Try getting to the Control Center (perhaps under TWM or FVWM selected at the login manager under session) and turning off Desktop Effects. That solves it for me.

Thanks for the reply.

Actually, it was off and by turning it back to Normal, the problem (so far) has not reappeared.
