wifi antenna

any ideas on the best wifi antenna for a hp zv5000, running ubuntu, 6.1. I need something that i can hook directly to my laptop. I have read the site where people made a few from tin cans and such, but I don't know if any of those would have any negative effects on my laptop, even with some degree of fuse built in.

The best depends on your requirements, Distance from acesss point, portability etc.
A tin can antenna is a directional device so it would need to be mounted somewhere.

Since you can not connect an external antenna to the existing wireless adapter you will need to purchase either a PCMCIA or a USB device that has an antenna conection. A repeater device would installed in your building/house would allow you to be mobile and use your builtin wireless adapter.
