Not much can be changed on a laptop besides installing extra memory, i think you'll find that sound is built in on laptop and so it can't be changed. What you can do though is find out any info regarding your sound and trying to get a driver for it, or post on the forums. Another thing to try is to change your alsamixer settings. When i do a new install of Slack on my vaio my sound is muted and i have to go into the alsa settings and change it.
$ alsamixer
Change the master volume and stuff, then exit..
$ alsactl store
That will save the settings (might need to be root).
Is your sound card recognized, like in the Suse control centre? (not sure what it is called).
Hope that helps..
Cheers
