usb thumbdrive on a Hp omnibook900

Last week I purchased a good deal on a hp omnibook 900 laptop for 50.00.
So, i went and installed mandrake 8.1 on it. I have this one usb port on back in middle of laptop. I want to use my Apacer usb thumbdrive to send files too and from this device. How can i get this installed or configured to work?

thanks

Kevin
