Hey whats up. I don't know if you guys can help me with this but I thought I would inquire anyways.
I am running a dual boot on my toshiba laptop. I was running Windows XP Home edition and Fedora Core 6. Everything was working great. I decided to upgrade my XP Home edition to XP Pro using an upgrade package you can buy. I did the upgrade process and after I was no longer able to boot into my windows partition. My question has to do with the grub loader. After performing this upgrade should I do anything with the grub loader to ensure it can still boot windows? Does the grub loader have to be updated in anyway? Grub still sees my windows installation, and when I choose to boot windows I get to the windows loading screen but from there the system simply restarts. I have a feeling it has to do with stupid windows but I thought I would ask if maybe it might have something to do with grub.
Hi,
if, as you say, the Windows boot logo shows up, then I'm afraid it's not a grub problem. The only thing grub does when choosing Windows from the menu, is passing you on to the Windows boot loader, since grub doesn't really understand Windows. That's what the "chainloader" line in grub.conf is for...
So it's probably Windows.
cheers, Tanja
