My Dell Inspiron came with Windows 10 which I since removed and only have Linux (Mint and Fedora) on board. Dell's driver/software list marks a BIOS update as being urgent. The only thing is it is a Windows executable file and I can't find any way to up the BIOS without Windows.
Is your laptop current enough to have the "firmware update" option for the bios? If so, you can download the .exe file, put it on your /boot/efi partition, then simply boot into firmware update and update it from there.
