I'm setting up a laptop for triple boot: Windows and two Linux distros. The latter two will share swap and a single /home partition. Is avoiding config file conflicts simply a matter of having separate users (one for each distro) in the shared /home partition? Main apps will be OpenOffice, Gimp, Firefox, Thunderbird, Evince, Scribus, searchandrescue and some multimedia apps.

that would work, also a bit more labor intensive would be to edit /etc/passwd and /etc/group on both linux installs so that users have the same user/gid and can share the same files
