Ubuntu Resolution Problems...

Hey there,

I'm trying to install Ubuntu on a Fujitsu Siemens laptop - I've convinced my dad that it's much better than XP

The only problem is that the screen is being detected as the wrong resolution. It's coming up at 640x480, and sits in the middle of the screen with black, inaccessible bars around the sides.

The regular resolution for the screen is 1024x768.

I've had a look at changing the resolution through the settings in Ubuntu, however there are no options other than 640x480!

Please help!

Cheers.

The Laptop is a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo L 6825. I've found a specific page on the Ubuntu website about it:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestin...itsuAmiloL6825

But it says that the resolution is fine???

Please help...

You might have to poke around in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Specifically the Monitor and Screen sections. Paste those sections here and someone will surely suggest something for you to try. Also, try installing 915resolution to see if that fixes the problem.

Mine xorg.conf file look like that
Code:
Section "Monitor"
	Identifier	"Generic Monitor"
	Option "DPMS"
	HorizSync	28-64
	VertRefresh	43-60
EndSection

Section "Screen"
	Identifier	"Default Screen"
Device "Intel Corporation Mobile Integrated Graphics Controller"
	Monitor "Generic Monitor"
	DefaultDepth	24
	SubSection "Display"
		Depth 1
		Modes "1280x768"
	EndSubSection
	SubSection "Display"
		Depth 4
		Modes "1280x768"
	EndSubSection
	SubSection "Display"
		Depth 8
		Modes "1280x768"
	EndSubSection
	SubSection "Display"
		Depth 15
		Modes "1280x768"
	EndSubSection
	SubSection "Display"
		Depth 16
		Modes "1280x768"
	EndSubSection
	SubSection "Display"
		Depth 24
		Modes "1280x768"
	EndSubSection
EndSection
1280x768 is the correct resolution for me, it sounds like you only have "640x480" in this section. Then just add "1024x768" after "640x480", reboot, and you should find also your "1024x768" option in ubuntu settings
