tru plug and play or a docking station?

I'm currently using my main laptop SuSE 9.0 on an hp ze4420us with 1gb ram. I often have it setup to *mirror* on a samsung 175v LCD Screen, and use an hp intellimouse usb and ms ps2 keyboard. They work great upon pluging them up, however if i remove them the internal keyboard and mouse stop functioning until a complete log / restart of the system. Is there a way to setup a profile for docking so to speak?
