Toughbook CF-31 running Mint - Cursor unresponsive (mouse/touchscreen/touchpad all the same result)

Hi,
I recently installed Linux Mint on a Toughbook CF-31. It worked very well, and even the touch screen calibration worked as hoped.

However, a couple months later, suddenly the mouse cursor is "stuck" in the middle of the screen and refuses to move more than an inch or so, no matter whether you are using the touchpad, stylus or a USB mouse.
Nothing at all has changed in the system or settings.
I tried the boot thumb drive, running Mint directly off the USB stick. Exact same effect.

So, I'm thinking maybe it's a hardware issue, but am unsure what to do next. I can't find any mention of this exact problem in user forums.

Will be most grateful for any advice!

Neil

Lets start out getting some basic hardware info .

Code:
inxi -zv7
So maybe later on we can get hardware name and get you to peek through

Code:
dmesg | grep < Name of hardware we don't know the name of yet goes here >
I know inxi runs in Mint terminal. Just copy and paste between code tags . The hash mark in the tool bar in the advanced reply window reply box. Also good to list names is.

Code:
xinput list
Code:
grep "input device" /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Another thing you can check. On My Cf-48. The bios is flaky. Probably battery change needed. Anyways. I'd check that the mouse was not turned off in bios because of battery fault.

Hi,
Thanks for all the help, and sorry for the slow reply.

rokytnji: It is the same effect with the USB mouse. I am waiting for a replacement BIOS battery, it is an older machine so that is likely.
Interestingly, after this being inside in the warmth for a week (I forgot to mention this is a truck-mounted Toughbook) the touchpad and USB mouse once again work. The touch screen "sort of" works but can't be calibrated (the further from the centre of the screen, the larger the gap between the stylus and where the screen "thinks" the stylus is)
Maybe this "Tough"book is allergic to cold?

from inxi output:
Machine: Panasonic CF-31SBLEA1M
CF-19 HID touch panel

Thanks again!
