Touchpad acting up after kernel recompile

I've just recompiled the kernel (2.6.22.6) on my new laptop, which is an Asus F3Sv. I'm running Slackware 12. Everything seems to be alright so far, but the touchpad is acting very erratically. Not sure how to describe it better than that, but it's very annoying. The problem wasn't there before the recompile, and I never experienced this on my older notebook. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
