Toshiba SP20-552 restart problem

Hello. I have a Toshiba SP20-552. I have been running SuSE on it for a few years now... from 9.0 all the way through to 10.1.

The chipset is i875/ICH5 I believe...

My current kernel is 2.6.18.2-4 (SuSE's official kernel)

My problem is that when I shut off the computer I have to remove the power cable to be able to turn it back on again. After that it boots fine. If i try to restart it will halt but not restart... so I have to press the power button for a few secs to shut off, then remove the power cable, then turn it on again... I have been having this problem for years, and I was hoping that one of the kernel updates would fix it... but the laptop is now over 2 years old and there is no sign of any change....

Has anyone else experienced this kind of behaviour, and what can I do about it?

Thankyou

//rey

a) Does it work if you use a Live-Distri like Knoppix for e.g.?

It seems that your not running with ACPI support turned on.

It will not work with any distro... and yes ACPI support IS turned on....

weird huh? the ONLY think I can think that MAYBE is affecting it is this failure when loading acpid, but acpid still manages to start

acpid: loading CPUFreq modules failed
acpid: loading ACPI modules ( ) done
acpid: will not skip unsupported modules
acpid: loading ACPI laptop modules ( ) done
Starting acpid done

here is the output from lsmod | grep "acpi"

acpi_cpufreq 24964 0
freq_table 21504 1 acpi_cpufreq
processor 48360 2 acpi_cpufreq,thermal

am I missing anything?

Thanks alot
