Toshiba Laptop Module

What does the Toshiba Laptop module do? I couldn't find any info about it. And will it work with older modles such as a Tecra 520CDT: Pentium 166 MMX, 64MB RAM, 2GB hard drive...
And lastly, what is the module called so I can modprobe it.
Thanks

PS: Another quick question. Would there be any problems with loading both the APM module and the ACPI module?

It should allow you to use the softkeys on your laptop.

you can run acpi and apm if needed. just enable events as needed to get things working.

like extra keys that do things that you can assign them to do.

I have some that are labeled for mail, tv, browser, lock, and ?

I also have some keys for volume controls

To use them you will need a driver. The module should work for your laptop.

to see if they work try this..

use a terminal, not X for this or it could go crazy on you.

run this..

showkey -s

Then press the keys and see if they are generating a scancode.
If they are you can assign them to a keycode. A keycode can be setup to run something.

This..

showkey -k

shows keycodes in case you want to see if they are already assigned

to assign a keycode to a scancode you will use this..

setkeycodes

see these..

man showkey
man setkeycodes
man keymaps
man loadkeys
man dumpkeys
