Toshiba A100-SK8 and linux

Sort of new to linux. I have decided to put it on my laptop as I am learning linux in school at the moment and I want another outlet to experiment with. I installed ubuntu first with no issues but then decided to uninstall and go with Fedora Core 6 (that is what i am learning in school currently). I have noticed something with my laptop that is a bit scary though. While running linux is appears that the cooling fans for the laptop aren't running causing my laptop to run extremely hot. Has anyone else experienced this with their laptops at all? Or is this an isolated issue?

thanks in advance
