Question ThinkPad 600e Neomagic font & screen

On my Tp 600e with the standard neomagic 2mb video card I want the screen to be at 1024x768 as good as it is at 800x600 when I do the FN+F8 key - it looks good there the shadows and fonts look good. When I set it to the 1024x768 shadows and fonts looks like hell.

I am running the current version of XFree86 4.3.0 and I am running RH9. I have all the latst fonts etc. here are my questions:

1. Will the Neomagic support 1024x768 good and clear just like it does 800x600?

2. If so, can anyone help me out on what excatly to do to make it work i.e make 1024x768 look good.

3. If the neomagic will not do that can I get another card for this TP 600e or is it built in to the board?

Overall i jut want the screen to look good at 1024x768 as it does at 800x600 - this may be a font issue not excatly sure.

thanks in advance!

jeff

1) Yes, it will work. I run Slackware on the same machine as you have at 1024x768.

2) At a shell, type "Xconfigurator."

3) You shouldn't need to.

great.. I will try that.

.. Also have the only other problem I got is getting the serial port to work in RH9 i.e. ttyS0 - I am using it to connect to a Cisco rotuer and I am using Minicom ver.2 and I can not get the Serial ports to work or at least tell me somehow that they are "enabled" is there I have tried setserial -g /dev/ttyS0 it gives me some info but realyy does not tell me if its "enabled" or not or if its rec. any data - meaning I just want to confirm that its up and running. The program Minicom I have set correctly I know tis for sure but I get no data when the program comes up etc..

I know this is completely different from the screen issue but its noce to here some feedback from someone that has the same laptop - ok thaks.
