Unhappy T40 /dev/hdc can't open


Please help.. I have a T40 laptop and have installed an additional drive, I see the drive in /proc but fdisk /dev/hdc returns can't open

Running Redhat 9

Any assistance is geatly appreciated.

Does/did your T40 have a recordable/rewriteable CD drive that was peviously on /dev/hdc?
The scsi-ide emulation layer could still be being activated. Check your grub/lilo config files. If you see an section like hdc=ide-scsi then thats the culprit.
