Strange problem with DVD (writer) drive on a Toshiba Satellite laptop.

I have a very strange problem with by DVD (writer) drive on my laptop.

I was ripping music (to MP3) from some CD's. I was using Konqueror and going to "audiocd:/MP3/". However, on the 7th CD, it wouldn't go past 448 KB. I tried the next disk and same thing. Then went back to the first disk and got the following error:

Code:
An error occurred while loading system:/media/sr0/MP3:
Unknown error.

If you have a cd in the drive try running cdparanoia -vsQ as yourself (not root). Do you see a track list? If not, make sure you have permission to access the CD device. If you are using SCSI emulation (possible if you have an IDE CD writer) then make sure you check that you have read and write permissions on the generic SCSI device, which is probably /dev/sg0, /dev/sg1, etc.. If it still does not work, try typing audiocd:/?device=/dev/sg0 (or similar) to tell kio_audiocd which device your CD-ROM is.
At first I thought who cares about it. However, it wouldn't read ANY disks. Also, "system:/media/" would always show the "Audio CD" icon, even if there was no disk in the tray. In addition, the tray doesn't eject anymore (I'm using a paper clip to open it now). The tray doesn't react to the button, and clicking eject in various programs doesn't do anything.

I also tried to mount the disk to a different location (e.g. /media/iso):
Code:
# mount /dev/sr0 /media/iso
would result in:
Code:
mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: /dev/sr0 already mounted or /media/iso busy
I don't know why this is happening or even what the problem is. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I fixed the no-eject problem, but I still can't rip the music. I can read other disks fine, just not ripping.

In case anyone's interested: I took the drive out of my laptop, booted up, shut down, put it back in, booted up, and then it was working.
