sound problem mandriva 2006

Hi,
My laptop starts with an irritating whisteling sound, 3 times out of 5,
moreover, the sound won't work, except for the start jingle
Sound card: I/O Controller Hub Audio
driver:snd-hda-intel
fujitsu siemens amilo pro
mandriva 2006
Does someone see what I could try?

you using the ALSA driver? Try the OSS one.

I have similar problems sometimes, laptop sound cards don't seem overly well supported in mandriva. It really depends on the sound card present.

Right,
but I tried OSS, and it clearly doesn't work, there's an error message, saying
"error while initializing the sound driver:
device/dev/dsp cannot be opened (no such file or directory)"
OSS won't recognise any sound driver
I will now try to update snd-hda-intel
and see...
please keep in touch if you have any more info...

Arrow

Which motherboard your Fujitsu laptop has? And which
processor? I have IBM® ThinkPad R50e laptop which
is Centrino 1.5 and has Sound MAX sound chip. I am using Mandriva
since last 8~9 month's. It autodetects sound card. Well, if you
tell which chipset you have, i can find which sound card chip
your Fujitsu-Siemens laptop has. Usually Mandriva detects major
sound card chip's including RealTek and other. Or after installation if over, it again asks you to configure devices,at
that point you can manually specify your sound chip and that's it.
Mandriva is pretty easy. Tell me complete model number of your
laptop.

Regard's,

with a centrino 1.86
I/O Controller Hub Audio, should be the sound chip
