Hello all,
I have a sony laptop, a vgn-b55g(centrino 1.5,768mb ram, 40gb hdd, etc). The model number might sound strange, cos sony sells this one in (AFAIK) asia only. Anyway, here's the problem: i can't get or set the lcd brightness. I've got the sonypi module working (seemingly) and i can poll the device for function key presses as well as get battery details. However the lcd brightness shows up as 0(using spicctrl) regardless of what i set it to, and of course trying to set it doesn't do anything. I've tried the acpi patch also,to no avail. There is one thing though, powertweak has an entry called 'sony lcd brightness' which seems to get the correct value. Editing that value doesn't do anything though
I don't know what else to try, if there's anything at all...i was just hoping that maybe someone might have had the same problem and maybe solved it..or ideas...i do realise that i'm probably pursuing a lost cause, and i will probably have to set the brightness from windows forever(it remembers the settings, even after shutdown, etc). But it's just bloody irritating that the windows driver smugly changes the brightness with ease-and it shows me a bar indicating brightness-what cheek! i'm never buying a sony again
