Unhappy slackware 9.1 on presario 1505 us

I am a Linux newbiw and have just taken the plunge with slackware 9.1. no problems installing. having difficulties finding drivers and setting up my NIC. the hp site lists it as a "Compaq Mobile Intel Pro/100+" whatever that means. the intel site doesn't list that model. where can i find a driver?

If you are unsure of your installed hardware you should start by:
Typing lspci on the command line. This will list the devices installed and you can add -v for more verbose info.

I suggest trying this and then using that information to find a driver for your ethernet card. If you are using a stock kernel and you are in luck, you will be able to find a line in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules that will load the corresponding module for that device. If so, uncomment that line. You could also use the output from lspci to do some googling.

Talking Problems solved! Yeah!

Thanks.

I've been experimenting between Red Hat 9 and Slackware 9.1 to find a flavor I prefer. I've just re-installed Slackware and had it pick up ALL my hardware (including a PNY Attache that caused Red Hat to lock) on install.

My problem was, naturally, Operator Error. I treated the initial install of Slackware like a Windows install (i.e. threw my hands up, closed my eyes, and prayed for a miracle). I paid attention this time and everything is working.

A copy of Running Linux from O'Rielly publishing helped a lot too.

Once again, thank you.

Mike
