what kind of hard drive do i need to get fo my dv9000 laptop? i am wanting to add a second maybe 80gig to put linux on...
i went to hps web site and it saya is uses a sata drive, but newegg doesnt list sata drives under laptop drives... i am assuming a western dig is the way to go...?
ST910021AS is the model no. You will also need the mounting bracket from HP.
Do be aware the dv9000 BIOS is broken badly. F.1A is a piece of junk ACPI, APIC and HPET are not working under linux ... The BIOS was compiled under M$ APM compiler and it causes ACPI issues. I have several calls into HP re: this
No new BIOS from HP. I was told by second level executive customer relations that HP is in "NO WAY" going to back any kind of linux functionality on any of their laptops. I am awating a call from Jeff Utigard, this guy should be able to get the errors fixed and a new BIOS posted. The way I get things to run is to use "acpi=bios apic=bigsmp" in grub. But several of the devices do not work or cause lockups. I will post as soon as I find anything out.
There is a new BIOS out for the DV9000 series, and it's allowed me to boot and install Ubuntu 7.10 amd64 with only the 'noapic' option passed to the kernel. And, everything works! Even the broadcom wireless and nvidia restricted drivers installed without a hitch.
I've been waiting a long time to get Linux on here...hopefully this will benefit someone else as well.

It "fixed" the cooling fan algorithm and made it run ALL the time really loud.
I rolled back to F.3B. I am still having issues with my CD/DVD now that I have the F.xx BIOS on. I own two dv9000 and both started having the same CD/DVD issues about the same time I moved up in BIOS.
Weird...the fan doesn't run very loud at all for me and the laptop seems to run much cooler. I wonder if it's the difference between the Intel and AMD laptops...
Still, Ubu works fine, it seems. Posting from my laptop now. Just use noacpi or it doesn't boot...
Where can i download the new BIOS for my HP LAPTOP dv9615tx ?
