Screen goes blank and fan noise reduces..press a button and back to normal?

I am running suse 8.2 on my advent laptop..think its called gericom in the U.S? I think the laptop overhaets because the fan is not being controlled properley?

The screen will go blank and the noise of the fan will go very quiet, to get it working again i have to press a button the the keyboard and it resumes like the screen refreshed..it cannot be the fan as i have duel booted windows xp and it runs fine..someone please help

Are you using laptop at the time screen goes blank?

If not, it might be some integrated power save feature. Kernel 2.4 of SuSE 8.2 does not support power management as WinXP does. WinXP controlles power management features itself. As SuSE 8.2 does not support PM, values defined in computer BIOS are used.
