redhat

hi all

I have del800 with mandrake 10.1 installed and having problems for update etc.
I wanted to change to redhat.

currently I have dual operating system, windows and linux, I would like to
install redhat instead of mandrake. How can I do that without losing any
of my data and programs in the harddisk.

any easiest way of removing mandrake and install redhat in the laptop.

thanks
venkt

eighter back up your data and play it back in after installing (DVD/CD-Rom/another harddisk...)
or
create a new partition - may have to shrink one of your current partitions to make room - make a filesystem there - mount it to your filesystem - copy your data to it - unmount it - install the new OS to the place, where yourold one was (without touching the partition you just copied your data to!) - then mount it back into your new system.
The programs however - you will not need to save them - because the new distribution you are installing brings also new (or the same...) programs with it...
