Pcmcia Hdd

New to Linux. Have Slackware 10.0,just installed on a Gateway Solo 1450LS/512 MB RAM(Smoking! Especialy compared to the Windoze neXtPerson it was running.Got everything setup fine(KDE,even GAIM with Yahoo!!)
My problem is that I have an older Integrated Peripherals Viper 260MB HDD PCMCIA that I need to fdisk/format(Nothing on it at all) The device 'looks' like it installs on bootup, but where is it,and if it's there, how do I cfdisk/format it?I want to put a SLAX distro on this drive for a friend who is stuck with an old IBM Thinkpad without floppy or bootable cd drive. I have no idea where to look for init files for this device(Most searches turn up other distros,no bearing on slackware.) What do I need to do?
Please tell me in order,i.e. check if xxx.xxx is showing in /xxx/xxx, then run xxx

I'm more than willing to learn, but I only have a vague grasp of the commands and how to enter them. I would LOVE to get this thing cfdisk and formatted somehow.

Thanks in advance

For some reason, I was thinking USB. Ooops. Check out the cardctl commands to make sure the card is recognized, etc. If it is, the next trick is to figure out if linux will let you access it and where. Most removable media shows up as a SCSI device so poke around under /proc/scsi.
