Omnibook 800 Monitor issue?

I have posted a few problems I have been having with this laptop since I got it about a month ago. There doesn't seem to be much info on problems with this laptop in the archives, so I thought I better leave some notes!!

HP Omnibook 800
P2 333 96Mb, 4.3Gb Ext CDROM
Slackware 10.1

Initially, I was having a problem with the CDROM not mounting, until I noticed that although the CD was spining, it wasn't registering on the BIOS startup screen as existing - so of course it wasn't going to mount!

My second issue is the one I have a problem with. As it is booting from the HD, it hangs after:
AGPGART BX440 Detected

I've worked out it is possibly because I set up the wrong graphical mode - this is a 12 inch screen, which I understand has a resolution of 800 x 600 16m. I will try that set up on it tonight.

Third point is to do with the file type on the hard drive. When I choose EXT2 I get the problem with the AGPGART appearing, but when I chose EXT3, it never gets that far and complains that it needs to do a back up of the HDD or something!

Is it best to still to a EXT2 filesystem for smaller drives, or is this mainly a problem for older notebook drives?

UPDATE - It's alive!!

Having fiddled a lot with the system last night, I finally have a sort of working laptop!

The problem of the AGPGART hanging (AGPGART: BX440 Detected) was solved by hashing out the command in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules

This was done after setting up the system, but before rebooting after the completion by just using VI

I hope this post will help anyone else who is suffering from the same fault.
