Question No TouchPad, no floppy, no sound Mandrake 9.1

Hello, I am a newbee to Linux. Maybe someone can help me. I have just installed Mandrake 9.1. I like it a lot, compare to Window XP. But I don't know how to make my floppy and touchpad work. And how do I make the sound work? Need some suggestions where to look.

I am from the Macintosh planet and all those command line stuff looks weird to me. Can somebody indicate me an easy book or PDF or whatever to operating a console...

And wich one is the best for a newbee?

Thanks a lot

I'd recommend
RUTE
and of course
Mandrake documentation

If you want actual help with your problems, rather than just links to other guides, you really should give more information, but please search the forum before you ask.

As far as the floppy goes though, i don't think its not working, you might just have to mount it (see links)

Anyway, the search is your friend if you want more documentation, and with linux you always need a fair amount. Welcome to linux and LQ, hope you enjoy it.

For the touchpad:
If it is a Synaptics, you need a different driver than the original one.

Can I just ask another question, regarding your answer to my post...
You said :

Well, I don' really know how to do that. A little hint might be interesting.

When I look at the Mandrake (9.1) control panel, under the harware tab HarDrake I don't see my floppy under the USB tab, where it is supposed to be, but under the unknown tab.

Vendeur: ?SAMSUNG

Bus: ?USB

Description: ?SFD-321U [FW 0D]

Module: ?inconun (unknown)

Classe de matériel: ?Mass Storage|Floppy (UFI)|Control/Bulk/Interrupt

So Mandrake can see it but I cannot acces it (or I don't know where to look and how)

As you can see I need some basic understanding of that mounting thing

Waiting for anyone to answer

Thanks a lot from a kid who really want to get rid of all those M$ background self-running apps
