no sound from head phone in debian?


I am using debian jessie 64 bit.
My laptop is dell inspiron 15 3541.

My problem is :
sound works fine in internal speakers.
When i plug in head phone,sound is continuing from internal speakers.I get no sound from head phone.
Also,alsamixer does not show microphone.It shows only master.

If I recall properly, Debian uses a pulse audio overlay. If you have not already done so, install pavucontrol (the pulse audio mixer) and check the settings in that. If you are dual-booting Windows, test in Windows. Also, again if you have not already done so, make sure the headphones work.

You might also boot to a Live CD of something no Debian-based and test the audio jack.

It's important rule out the possibility that this is a problem with headphone jack assembly, because, if it is hardware, no amount of messing the software can fix it, but it can waste a lot of time and effort.

I installed pavucontrol
opened pavucontrol
selected microphone as default.Now the microphone works fine.
