Hi,
Can you, please, give some details about your machine ? Notebook/Desktop, video Nvidia / ATI and what model, soundcard...etc.
It is also posible to have a corrupted installation CD/DVD, so you'll have to make a new one and try to install Mint again.
It's very hard for everyone to help you without having more information about your hardware.
Take a look of those and come back

The installation process should have asked you for a user/password. One crude but effective way to get the info you need is to boot from a live cd (or usb stick), chroot to the installed Julia, then
Code:
cat /etc/passwd
to see what the username is (I believe the uid should be 1000), then
Code:
passwd <username> <newpassword>
then exit the chroot and boot the installed Julia

Try demo and root. I think that is what it is on the live disk.

If you did a normal install and you installed a user and password the computer should have rebooted to some graphical screen and not the tty prompt.

It means there is either some issue with how slow the machine is and you simply have to wait longer or your gui is not working.
