Kubuntu 7.10 - Dell D520 - doesn't power off screen when idle

Hi all,

I have happily removed Vista from my Dell latitude D520, and switched to Ubuntu, everything worked perfectly, but I wanted to have a look at KDE as well, so I installed the Kubuntu metapackage from Synaptic, and switched over.

In KDE everything works fine, but the problem is that my laptop is almost all the time on AC power and is being used as a desktop. I leave it on during the day, and while in GNOME it used to power down the screen as I set it up to, after 2 hrs, in KDE, when I come home from work, I see the screensaver instead of a black turned off screen.

I have set the poweroff from System Settings>Monitor&Display>Power Saving>X on enable power saving, and set 2hrs on the "switch off monitor after" dropmenu.

first of all go into set up now that you are nolonger using a windows O/S and tell bios you are using a none windows none plug-n-play system. and make sure your bios are set for the power setting then a must is to make sure that in grub that it says in your 1stmenu acapi=on
yes I relise linux has plug-nplay built into the kernel but for over 7 years I know of it is still experimental. your machine will never shut down unless the acapi module that dose this is loaded at boot. and most likely it is but you must tell it to use is acapi=on
acapi is the interface with the BIOS power settings.

thanks, I'll try that, but the fact is the screen used to turn off when idle when I used GNOME. That's why instead of looking for a hardware level solution, I am asking for KDE/Kubuntu specific configs
