Is Ubuntu good for my laptop?

Hi,

I was told that Ubuntu is a great version of Linux. I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop, and I am considering zapping XP and putting Ubuntu on it. Will it recognise my hardware? What is its compatibility like? Thanks for any suggestions.

Greg.

Yes, sure. Mine works without problem and hardware recognition was perfect.

I'm running Kubuntu PPC on my Apple PowerBook G3, and all my hardware was recognized automatically.
