Question Installing ubuntu from a PC Card HD

Hi guys, I just came into possesion of an IBM ThinkPad 240. It has not floppy drive and no cd rom drive. It does have a PC card slot that it can boot from and I just ordered a 2gb PC card HD. I have set up the BIOS to boot from the PC card before the HD, but I'm wondering what I have to do to make the pc card bootable. Do I have to do something special, or can I just format and extract to contents of the ISO (I'd like to give ubuntu a try cause I've heard good things about it with the ibm 240) to the card? I don't have a linux machine to do the formatting on, only a windows laptop, so any ideas? Thanks a lot.
