Angry switching form kernel 2.6.27 to 2.6.28: dev/console error

I am trying to upgrade from kernel to on an
asus u5f laptop.

When rebooting i get the error message:

432 cannot open dev/console

I googled a little but could not find a clear solution. I almost tried
all the suggestions found on the web but still have the problem.
I think it is connected with the sata disk configuration.

Thanks for any help.

Just few note on how I solved the problem:

- the kernel is booted without initrd;
- all the staff related to the SATA disk is built in the kernel;
- the issue ``Initial RAM filesystem and RAM disk" that can be found
in general setup has been removed from the kernel;
- the line append="root=/dev/sdaX" has been added to the lilo
stanza booting the kernel

Hope may be of some help.
