IBM T42p Not Booting from CD

Trying to install linux on my T42p. I just put in a new display panel and a 40gig Toshiba HD. CD is first on the boot list so I put in the gentoo/slackware cd which are obviously bootable. I turn the computer on and I get the IBM Rescue and Recovery screen. I have used both of these cd's before on this same computer so I know it is not the cds. Anyhelp would be nice.
