In the TV's on-screen display (OSD) menu, turn off overscan mode by changing the input mode. Some TVs call it "Just Scan", "Full Pixel", "True Pixel", "Screen Fit", "1:1 Mode", "Native Mode", "Dot by Dot" or possibly something else

Interesting, kodi has a feature to set overscan and also on raspberry pi you can set it. So I think it is more general...
You might find this useful: https://evilshit.wordpress.com/2012/...-1080p-output/ (although a bit old).

Just a thought.

I guess it could be that you can't for some reason set your video as you wish for some reason. Maybe driver issue or config issue or cable issue or tv issue and the list goes on.

On one of my TV's I have a heck of a time if I have to make changes. I tend to start with full power down and remove AC cord and hdmi cord. Then try to boot one then boot other to see if it tries to sync up as you wish.

The first thing I would try which you apparently haven't is giving it NO config.

X server is pretty good at feeling around for what's connected, figuring out what each monitor is good for and running it close to that. Why not try letting it do the job? Remember that there's configurations also in /usr/lib(64)/X11, or /usr/share/X11; they are distro configs.

Then just fix what it's not doing right. And I wouldn't mess with xrandr. Put a 20-video.conf in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d, with the ServerLayout and Video setup. Man xorg.conf is your friend.
