I just laid my hands on a HP nx9010 and started to make a search in this forum for similar hardware to check if people have been sucessfull at instalation and so on , but i noticeed there is a compaq version nx9010 , so my main question is how is this possibe ? Well , does anybody have the same machine ? What distro ? Could you advise in any way how to proceed ? thanks for your time .
I forgot to tell that i already looked into www.linux-laptop.net and didn't found any information on this model . Please understand that i haven't got any problem, yet .
I tried yesterday to install slackware 8.1 but i found a messed up partition table , with 4 unknown types and a novell netware(?).
I didn't feel like going on so i stopped everything . Can you help ?
BTW I find really sad pc companies don't help linuxers in any way, there should be some kind of law to prevent this, i mean you should be abble to choose, right ? otherwise it's like tirany.
hey man thanks for your attention, and yes now that you´ve mentioned it ,
i partitioned my hd with fdisk and nothing seems to work , when i check the partition table it looks like what i wanted to do but , afterwards , during instalation slackware tells me that i don´t have any linux or swap partition. Can you help ? thanks a lot
I had the same thing happen to me with fedora core 1 I used fdisk to repartion my
and went throught the install but after rebooting it failed with a kernel pankic
and said that there wasn't a linux partion also with Slackware
So I then did a Gentoo Linux install after repartion with fdisk and everthing was fine.
I have a HP pavilion zv5034us with Gentoo working on hope this helped.
well , thanks again , i have managed to reinstall windows and correctly partition with mandrake 8.1 disk druid and i can choose which OS to boot with no problem whatsoever . I am going to try Slackware tonight , wish me luck !
the link to the freax wiki is excellent. it has been very helpful. the nx9010 is a nice machine but it's been one of the more annoying laptop installs i've done.
everything seems to work now. it's my coworker's machine and he doesn't have any usb devices so i haven't had a chance to retest those, but except for one issue, it's good. the remaining problem is the keyboard. it randomly repeats chars on occasion. this is with the builtin keyboard and the external (ps2 connected) keyboard.
we've played with kbdrate but it's not helping. has anyone else seen this problem? is the solution commenting out the initial rate setting in setup.S and rebuilding the kernel?
Hi jamaso.
Like i said i've got one nx9010.
I've installed Slackware 9.1 and it works perfectly.
I've already installed Red Hat 7.3 without problems, but i prefer Slack.
Everything works fine, but when the system started for the firt time it doesn't starts X system, i had to edit /etc/fstab and change de default level from 3 to 4 (X11).
Now i've got kernel 2.6.3 and it works almost perfectly. I say almost because my network card is not working, but it's a matter of time.
With 2.6.3' kernel i've got even my touch pannel mouse working perfectly.
Upgrade now to Slackware 9.1, it works perfectly on nx9010.
