I'm running Slackware 13.37 on my HP laptop, and I just recently compiled/installed kernel 3.1.2. Before I updated my kernel version, the LCD backlight on my laptop only dimmed when the AC power supply was disconnected. Now it's dimming after a period of inactivity, when my laptop enters screensaver after I've been away, and when I return to it and unlock the session, the brightness won't return to normal.

I'm not sure what kind of specs I should provide for a problem like this, so I guess I'll just give you what you need/want in order to help me upon request.

Basically I just want to know how to prevent my LCD from dimming due to inactivity.

(By the way, I've tried "xbacklight -inc" and nothing happened. The Fn+Brightness^ keys aren't working either.)

Any and all help is much appreciated, because the only way I've been able to restore my LCD brightness so far is by rebooting, and that's a pain in my ass to say the least.

Open the display settings of your windows manager or DE. Everything, except Gnome3 has the option dim screen to save power. Untick the box.
