HElp withe a patch


Hi i know this is a stupid question but im a pretty new to linux, so please be patient.
I own a acer travellmate laptop and i want to install ubuntu on it. I have treid several distroes and non af the supports the battery. Now i have found a patch that should work, but i dont know how to install it. Plz dont tell me to read the readme, cuz it anit making sense to me. Here is the link to the patch, would u please translate the procedure to laymans term??

Ohh i cant post the link but the project is: "Smart battery system for linux" on sourceforge.
P.S. I dont know how to recompile a kernel:-(

I don't see any link to the patch.

Typically, the command to patch a kernel would be
patch -p0 < patchfile
